Motorsport wiring loom design

Race wiring looms designed for weight, vibration and serviceability — fast turnaround on bespoke builds for series cars, prototypes and one-offs.

Motorsport is a different language and a different timescale. The buyer is the chief mechanic or the build engineer, not the procurement department. The word on the page is loom, not harness. The target is a finished, race-ready loom in the hand of a build shop in weeks rather than months — without compromising on serviceability, weight or the failure modes that bite in a 12-hour endurance.

We design motorsport looms across the spectrum — from club-level single-seaters and historic rebuilds up through prototypes, GT and endurance programmes. The deliverable is a complete loom design pack handed to whichever harness shop builds for you. If you do not yet have one, we can recommend.

What you get

Motorsport loom design — deliverables

Production-ready designs, costed, scoped and signed off — packaged for your build partner.

  • Weight-optimised routing

Branch lengths driven by 3D routing against the chassis CAD. No surplus wire, no surplus tape.

  • Vibration + serviceability

Connector placement, strain relief and service access designed in from the routing pass, not bolted on later.

  • Build-ready pack

Flat-board layout, formboard pegs, branch labels, BOM — ready for the harness shop to build straight from the print.

  • Sensor + data harness

Data logging, telemetry and sensor harnesses integrated with the main loom — designed as one circuit, not two.

How it works

From brief to handover

  1. 01

    Build brief

Car, series, build partner, target shake-down date. Photos and a connector wishlist beat a formal spec.

  2. 02

    Loom layout

First-pass loom schematic + routing inside one week. Reviewed against the chassis CAD and the driver's body position.

  3. 03

    Build pack

Final pack — schematic, branch lengths, formboard data, BOM, label list — to the harness shop.

  4. 04

    Shakedown support

On-call for shakedown and first-race tweaks. Loom revision turned in days, not weeks.

Why race teams choose design-only

The race loom market is dominated by build-and-design shops, and they do good work — but the design is bundled. If you change harness shops, you start the design again. If you want a competitive tender on the build, you cannot get one without making the design portable first.

We are deliberately portable. The pack we hand over is in a format any competent harness shop can build from. Your loom is yours, your supply chain is yours, and if you change harness shops next season the loom design comes with you.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you build the loom or just design it?

Design only. We hand the pack to your harness shop — yours or one we recommend. Keeps us neutral on suppliers and keeps build cost transparent.

How fast for a club / historic project?

A single-loom club car or historic rebuild typically scopes in a day and designs in two to three weeks, depending on availability. Talk to us with a target shakedown date and we will work back from it.

Can you work to a paddock-level brief — photos and a sketch?

Yes. Most paddock briefs come in exactly that form — photos, a connector wishlist, a target weight. We scope from that and ask for the gaps once the costed plan is on the table.

Telemetry and data — do you integrate that?

Yes. Telemetry and data logging are part of the loom, not bolt-ons. We design them as one circuit so cable counts, weight and serviceability are all properly accounted for.
