Wiring harness 3D CAD design

Full 3D harness models routed against your vehicle CAD — for packaging studies, clash detection, assembly drawings and a BOM you can trust.

Most wiring harness firms still ship a 2D schematic and a flat-board drawing, and leave the 3D problem to the integrator. We do not. Every Signal Red engagement produces a 3D harness model routed in the same CAD as your vehicle — branch lengths driven by the real routing path, connectors placed in the real package space, clash-checked against the brackets and the body-in-white.

It is the part of the service buyers ask for and rarely get. ECAD-MCAD integration that actually closes the loop — schematic and 3D in sync, with the BOM falling out at the end instead of being typed up by hand.

What you get

Deliverables and scope

Each engagement is priced and scoped before we start — no scope creep, no surprises.

  • Routed 3D model

Branches routed against your vehicle or chassis CAD — accurate centre-lines, real connector geometry, real bend radii.

  • Clash + clearance report

Automated check against moving parts, heat sources, sharp edges and sealing surfaces. Findings written up, not just flagged.

  • Length-accurate BOM

Wire lengths and tape lengths driven by the model, not estimated. The BOM matches what the build shop will actually cut.

  • Assembly drawings

Flat-board layouts, branch labels, formboard pegs — exported in your build partner's preferred format.

How it works

From brief to sign-off

  1. 01

    CAD handover

We take your vehicle CAD in any common format — STEP, JT, Catia, Creo, NX, SolidWorks — and stand the harness up against it.

  2. 02

    Initial routing

First-pass 3D routing inside one week of CAD handover. You see the model in motion before the schematic is locked.

  3. 03

    Clash + iteration

Routing iterates with packaging — moving parts, thermal zones, service access. Each iteration is a short loop, not a six-week silence.

  4. 04

    Release

Final 3D model, length-accurate BOM, flat-board drawings, formboard data — released as one coherent pack.

FAQ

Common questions

Which CAD packages do you route in?

Siemens Capital, Zuken E3.HarnessBuilder, Creo Schematics and NX Harness — plus our own platform. Talk to us about your stack and we will tell you straight how clean the integration will be.

Can you work from a 2D schematic we already own?

Yes. The most common starting point is exactly that — an existing schematic, a partial 3D CAD set, and a list of what changed in the latest vehicle revision. We pick it up and bring the 3D up to date.

Do you do digital-twin or simulation work?

We deliver length-accurate models suitable for thermal and EMC follow-on. We do not own a simulation tool stack — if your programme needs simulation we will tell you who to take the model to next.

How does the BOM stay in sync with the model?

Our workflow is single-source — the schematic, the 3D routing and the BOM are driven from one data layer. When the routing changes, the BOM changes. No spreadsheet to hand-update.
